Betsy Zane, the Rose of Fort Henry

Betsy Zane is alone in Revolutionary War Philadelphia after her Great-Aunt Elizabeth suddenly dies in 1781. At thirteen, she struggles with whether to free the house slaves before heading west to join her brothers in a settlement on the Ohio River. Who will take care of freed slaves? The answer she comes up with is not “The Government.”
